B4 EVANSVILLE COURIER PRESS I SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2009 OBITUARIES 0 LOCAL Frances H. (Wolf) Block Frances H. (Wolf) Block, 90, of Alexandria, died Feb. 6, 2009, at the Community Hospital in Anderson, Ind. She was born Jan.

15, 1919, in Henderson, Ky. She was the daughter of Henry A. and Anna Klingenmaier Wolf. She was an Anderson resident since 1943. She graduated from high school in Henderson, attended Ward Belmont College and graduated from the University of Evansville in 1940.

She married John W. Block in 1943. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1991. She was an active board member of the Victoria Guild for many years, and volunteered at Anderson Fine Arts Center for many years. She is survived by her adopted family with whom she made her home, Rick and Tammi Davidson and their children, Baylee, Griffin, and Grace, all of Alexandria.

Her special caretakers, Ola McNeal, Sue Fields, Stephanie Drumm, Lora Mitchell and Shirley Thompson. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 10, from noon to 2 p.m., followed by a time of remembrance at the Rozelle Johnson Funeral Service, Anderson, Ind. Burial will be on Wednesday at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Evansville, Ind. Memorial contributions may be given to St. John's Hospice.

Emailed condolences may be sent to com. Lyndel Logan Carpenter Lyndel Logan Carpenter, 65, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2009, at his residence. Lyndel retired from Whirlpool after 41 years of service. He was a member of the Army National Guard and the local 808 Union Hall where he had served as Steward. Lyndel enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Surviving are sons, Jeff Carpenter of Ottawa, Brad Carpenter and his wife, Lisa, of Ottawa, parents, Bill and Margie (Nix) Carpenter; sisters, Judy Himmelheber and her husband, Bob, of Rockport, Ila "Dee" McDaniel of Boonville, Karen Alvey and her husband, Steve, of Grandview, ther-inlaw, Laverne McDaniel of Tennyson, 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; nieces; and caregiver, Tim O'Neal and his family. Funeral services are planned for 7 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2009, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond with Rev. Wade Allen officiating. A committal service will be held 1 p.m.

Morris, 86 Evansville Evansville Shirley A. Wright, 67 Evansville Bettye K. Davies Bettye Karger Davies, 85, of Evansville, died peacefully at home on January 22, 2009, surrounded and supported by her family. After an 18-year battle with cancer, she left this world with the same grace and dignity she radiated throughout her life. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Born in Evansville on October 28, 1923, Bettye was the daughter of Beatrice (Riess) and Kurt Karger, both of who preceded her in death. Mourning her passing are her three children, David K. Davies and his wife, Jan, of Evansville, Ann E. Davies of Valparaiso, and Jane (Davies) and her husband, Douglas Cook, of Germantown, Tenn. She is also survived by grandchildren, Alethea (Davies) Zabrowski and husband, John, Kurt Davies and his wife, Theresa, Elizabeth Cook, and A.J.

Cook. Bettye was a to Jack, Noah, and Luke Zabrowski and David Benjamin Davies. Bettye is also survived by her aunt, Virginia Wilson; and two cousins, Joanna Allen and Allen Martin. A lifelong resident of Evansville, Bettye graduated from Reitz High School and Indiana University, where she was voted campus Prom Queen in 1942. In 1943, she received a degree in elementary education.

Mrs. Davies retired from the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation in 1989. Bettye was a member of the IU chapter of Sigma Kappa Sorority and Junior League of Evansville. She served on the founding board of The Little Red School House, later renamed Evansville Day School. Bettye volunteered for the American Red Cross and was a Gray Lady at St.

Mary's Hospital. She was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, where she had served as an elder and a member of the Mary Martha Circle. Betty Katherine (Dill) Fuquay Betty Katherine (Dill) Fuquay, 78, of Evansville, passed away Friday, February 6, 2009, at her residence. Betty had previously worked at SIGECO from 1945 until 1954. She worked and volunteered for Muscular Dystrophy Association from 1954 until 1979. Betty also worked and volunteered for the Arthritis and Kidney Foundations.

She last worked for GFI from 1991 until 1994. Surviving are her husband, Milton "Skip" Fuquay of Evansville; daughter, Margaret Morgan (Mike) of Indianapolis; sons, Mike (Debbie), Pat, Don (Angie), all of Evansville; brother, Don Dill of Evansville; Aunt Doris Oliver of Evansville; grandchildren, Corey Fuquay, Brian Fuquay, Josh Morgan, Kyle Morgan, Maddie Fuquay and McKenzie Fuquay; great-grandchildren, Morgan Fuquay, Emma Fuquay, Ashton Fuquay, Ayden Fuquay, Jaxon Fuquay, Coleman Fuquay, Elliot Fuquay. Betty was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Jonah Fuquay. Clara Bell was born on December 19, 1918, to the late Samuel and Gertrude (Miller) Higdon. She graduated from Central High School. Clara was the eldest member of Westwood General Baptist Church, previously known as 12th Avenue Baptist Church, where she was also the oldest member of the church. Clara retired from Chrysler Corporation after 30 years of service. She enjoyed gardening and raising and showing dogs.

Surviving are a sister, Ruby Quick of Wentzville, nephews, Wayne Waters and his wife, Phyllis, of Wentzville, Tom Overfield and his wife, Alice, of Evansville; niece, Caroline McDonald and her husband, Jerry, of Florida; great-niece and caregiver, Cathy Coomes and her husband, Ted, of Evansville; and several other greatnieces and nephews. Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Alexander Goad, parents, sister, Phronia Gordon, and brothers, Andrew and Wayne Higdon. Surviving are daughter, Suzanne Wright; sons, Kenneth Paul and Stephen; sister, Nellie Boaz; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Morris Esther M. Morris, 86, of Evansville, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2009, at Woodlands Convalescent Center. Esther retired from Anchor Supply in 1995. She was a member of St. Benedicts Cathedral and enjoyed being with her children and many grandchildren.

She is survived by daughters Sharon Gill of Santa Claus, and Sonya Morris of Avon, sons, Robert Morris and wife, Lin, of Orlando, Ronald Morris and wife, Linda, of Newburgh and Randall Morris and wife, Aimee, of Columbus, 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Marion, son, Richard, and brother, Edwin Schutte. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, February 8, 2009, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Evansville.

Services will be held on Monday, February 9, 2009, at 8:30 a.m. at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 9 a.m. at St. Benedict Cathedral, with Father Harold Hammerstein OSB officiating. Burial will be in St.

Bruce Craig Peters Bruce Craig Peters, a chemical engineer with Albemarle Corporation and Baton Rouge resident since 1974, Bruce Peters died on Thursday, Feb 5, 2009, from complications while recuperating from leg surgery. He was born in Evansville, Indiana, on August 23, 1950.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, and a master's degree from Rice University in Houston. Bruce was a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church and was also an active member and past Commander of the Baton Rouge Sail and Power Squadron, which fosters boating safety. He was an avid follower of LSU sports, especially baseball and enjoyed a trip to the 2000 College World Series to watch the Tigers win the National championship. He had looked with great anticipation to enjoying the upcoming season in the new Alex Box Stadium. He will watch the games from an even better place.

He spent his career with Ethyl Corporation and Albemarle developing new chemical processes at the lab and pilot plant scale and was an inventor on seven patents. Bruce is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ethel Peters, and his sister, Meredith Peters from Las Vegas, Nevada. He is also survived by his good friend and soul mate, Jane LaCour. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr.

Walter Peters. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Baton Rouge, on Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Broadmoor Untied Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at 11 a.m. conducted by the Rev.

Ken Carroll. Bruce always looked for the best in people and faced life's challenges with a constantly positive attitude that was best described by his friends as "vintage Bruce." He was a warm, caring, gently giant who always unselfishly thought of others before his own welfare. Bruce will be sorely missed by his many friends and colleagues who came to know and love him during his time in Baton Rouge. Jacqueline Preske Jacqueline (Donnelly) Preske, 79, of Evansville, passed away Friday, February 6, 2009, at Deaconess Hospital. Mrs. Preske had previously worked at Holiday Retirement Village for seventeen years and for Sonitrol of Evansville and was also a homemaker. She was an active member of Holy Redeemer, Resurrection and Corpus Christi parishes. She served her country as a veteran of the United States Army.

Surviving are her three daughters, Barb Kasinger of Boonville, Jennifer Kay and her husband, David, of St. Philip, and Rene Goebel of Washington, three sons, Anthony Preske, Pat Preske and Mark Preske and his wife, Lauren, all of Evansville; three sisters, Joanne Doss of Mobile, Patty Crews of Clearwater, and Margaret Miller of Largo, and one brother, Jerry Donnelly of Lillington, N.C. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. Mrs. Preske was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James Preske in 2002, and eight siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2009, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Rev. Chris Forler officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, with the Retired Veterans Memorial Club conducting military rites.

Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 7 p.m. today at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service conducted by the church at 6 p.m. Friends may also visit from 9:30 a.m. until service time See OBITUARIES on Page B5.
