Ned Hull BOON- VILLE, Ind. Boonville resident and Retired Master Sergeant Ned Burkley Hull was called home from Roseburg, Oregon, to be with his beloved Rosa on January 30, 2009. He celebrated his 88th birthday on January 16th. Ned was an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Air Force, joining at the age of 19 to pursue his dream of becoming an aircraft pilot.

His love of planes was kindled at the young age of 9 when he was given a "free ride" on a demonstration plane that came to town, sharing his excitement for planes with Uncle Harvey, an aircraft mechanic. He served his country from 1940 through 1966, with tours of duty in Italy, Africa, Germany and the United Kingdom. Ned was decorated with the American Defense Service Medal and the EMAE Theater Ribbon. Ned ultimately realized his dream of flying when he earned his Private Pilot's license in 1969 after retiring to Indiana. Ned was born in Boonville to parents, Vada Alma Dillingham Hull and Harrison Laffyette Hull who preceded him in death.

He was raised in the Boonville and Evansville areas until joining the U.S. Air Force at the age of 19. Ned met and married his "Lady," Rosa Helene (Bischoff) Hull in Nordholz (Wursterheide), Germany in 1946. To appease the stringent war requirements for war brides, Ned and Rosa were required to marry three times to meet civil, religious and American government regulations. Rosa preceded him in death on February 10, 2006.

Ned was a man of marked integrity, was honorable in his dealings and honest in word and deed. He had a sunnyhearted disposition which warmed every life he touched. He was filled with neighborly good will which was exemplified by his selfless acts of heroism and charity. Ned lived his life by the motto: Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without (from the Lest We Forget campaign of WWII. He will be remembered for his love of hunting, fishing, boating, woodworking and his uncanny ability to be a jack of all trades at any project he tackled.

His love for Big Band music was apparent by the music that surrounded him; he always had a tune in his head to whistle while he sat in his backyard swing, enjoying the beauty of his surroundings.
